Were You Nominated?

Over the years I've been contacted by many people who are considering hiring me as their coach or attending one of my retreats. Some sign up. Some don't. I always believe in the synchronicity of life and know that if we are meant to work together, we will.

Sometimes, though, I feel a little disappointed when someone I would love to coach or host at a retreat, chooses something else. There is this feeling of disappointment that either the timing wasn't right or that they didn't feel it was what they needed at the moment. I shared this with one of my coaches last week and she said "Well, at least you were nominated." I gasped. "Nominated? Of course!" These people had put me on their top ten list and were motivated enough to contact me.

To be nominated is to be recognized as a potential partner in the exploration of one's life. It says "you are worthy of a second look". While my value is not tied to 'winning' or being 'chosen', it is definitely satisfying to be in the running.

Where in your life have you been nominated? Take a moment to think of the things that didn't work out and left you feeling sad or discouraged: The promotion that didn't come through; The group that where you didn't make the final cut. Were you on the radar? Were you given a chance to try out for the team? Did someone see you as a possibility? If you are struggling with a rejection, take a moment to think about the opportunity of just having been considered. That's a nomination!

I trust any potential client will be resourceful in finding the right fit for them. I cringe at the idea of talking anyone into working with me. I may see their brilliance and I might tell them but it's genuine, not a marketing ploy. So in the end, I'm smiling a great big smile because all those people who asked questions, requested information and took the time to reach out to me were nominating me.

And wherever it leads, it puts a song of gratitude in my heart.
