In our intellectual minds we probably find it hard to believe how much power a simple chocolate bar could have. In reality, it can change our lives in a snap. Not recognizing how much power something or someone has over us can be dangerous.
We might start our day with the full intention of accomplishing important tasks, honouring commitments to ourselves or someone else, starting an exciting new project, and more. Suddenly ... at least it feels sudden ... we are indulging in an addictive behaviour that yanks us out of our solid state of confidence into the abyss of self-doubt, self-loathing and self-sabotage. When we are triggered, many of us begin losing power the moment we 'give in' or 'believe' what we are feeling.
Consider where you might be losing power:
- an abusive relationship
- an old family/cultural belief
- a substance that numbs the feelings
- a behaviour that distracts from feelings
- self-negating mind chatter
- retaliatory or outward focused anger/resentment
Just think ... if a simple candy bar can throw you off your game, there is bigger stuff boiling underneath. You can take a look and sort it out or wait until it erupts. And trust me, one day it will.
