How many times have you said YES to someone only to feel a twinge inside that says "Why didn't I say NO?"
Every time we say YES to anyone or anything, we are simultaneously saying NO. When we say YES to a bag of cookies for dinner, we are saying NO to the healthy feeling we get from a nutritious meal. When we say YES to staying late at work, we are saying NO to spending time with our family. When we say YES to spending money on something we don't need, we are saying NO to saving for what we really want.
Over the years I watched myself suffer through experiences because I didn't have the courage or wisdom to just say NO. I've also witnessed myself move forward into extraordinary opportunities because I was willing to say YES.
It's equally important to recognize that when we say YES to supporting our dreams and ambitions we are saying NO to keeping ourselves small. When we say YES to taking on new challenges we are saying NO to feeling stuck. When we say YES to cleaning up unfinished business we are saying NO to living in chaos or disharmony.
Practice saying the words out loud ... and maybe even out LOUD so you can hear exactly what you are saying. A loud YES with some complementary actions like a fist pump, foot stomp or head nodding can have a powerful affirming impact - especially in front of a mirror. Not sure? Try it a few times and see if you can put a great big ole smile on your face as you say YES to something that really matters to you.
