Examining Life

The great philosopher Socrates said "The unexamined life is not worth living." But do we really believe that? I mean isn't it a whole lot easier to drift or roar through life in unaware?

Perhaps for some and I don't second guess their choice or inclination to live without the curiousity or impulse to dig in. That's not me and never has been. As far back as I can remember, I've been asking questions about life. Moving into middle age has only accelerated that process.

Now please don't think I am spending long days gazing out the window asking Why? Indeed I am as busy as ever including prescribed moments of reflection. I'm just so fascinated by human behaviour and not from a scientific perspective. For me, it's that 'gut instinct', spiritual, unsubstantiated, mystical perspective that is captivating.

I especially like to wonder about the significance of events and relationships in our lives. My belief is that there is divine synchronicity to everything so it makes sense to ask "for what reason is this happening to me at this time?"

And there is definitely more empowerment in being curious than feeling victimized by what and who happens to us. The gift of the Women's Wisdom Retreats is that right along with the participants I get to keep asking questions and learning. I often hear myself saying "Wow, what makes that okay with you?" or "What's your process for recovery from bad things?"

Socrates gets a big nod from me!
