Don't Stir The Rice

My husband doesn't cook much so when I discovered him at the stove, stirring the rice while it cooked I had to explain that he didn't need to do that. The rice cooked much better with the lid on and no interference. Oh what a metaphor for life.

How many times have I planted a 'seed/idea' and then kept poking at it instead of letting it germinate in a natural flow and process? More times than I want to admit.

There is something in the doing that excites me and since I'm already admittedly not a good 'waiter', I have to dig deep within myself to let the rice cook at it's on pace and rhythm. What I know is that some things take time. Babies grow best when they get their full nine months in the womb. Rushing it can cause problems. People don't always get a lesson/message the moment it is delivered. It can take time for it to land. Behaviours may not change overnight. They can take days, weeks, years of practice. Even the most transformational movements have to build at their own speed and in a way that creates lasting change.

When I ask myself why I don't/can't/won't leave things alone I uncover the real truth that is masked in impatience. I am simply afraid to let go of control and trust that things will work out as they should. As in, "I better not take my eyes on that or it might fizzle out or dry up."

One of the ways I've learned to let the "rice" (or anything else I'm anxious about manifesting) cook at it's own pace is to remember to breathe. Meditation has been the best resource for me to remember to relax and trust the process. In the early days of the Women's Wisdom Retreat it can take time to settle into a routine of slowing down and quieting our minds. After a few days, it seems much more natural.

The biggest advantage is that when we are in the busyness of our lives, we recognize when we are 'meddling' in the natural process of events. We can let go and trust that once we have planted the seeds, set the intention in motion, things will happen.

What are you stirring that needs to be left alone to grow? What will you do today to relinquish control and allow a natural flow to unfold?
