Lying in bed one night I suddenly had this strong sense of the need to call a truce. The dialogue in my head suddenly became clear and I saw the drama being played out:
The little girl in my head was crying and demanding attention. She felt trapped in circumstances she didn't think she had asked for or created. She wanted to be held and loved. She wanted to be carefree, have fun and play. She wanted to be free of criticism for her appearance, her behaviours, her mistakes.
On the other end of the conversation was the wise woman who wanted to make better choices, live with integrity, finish what she started and move on. Both great agendas with different approaches. The wise woman saw the child as a nuisance who interfered. The child saw the wise woman as punishing and judgemental. It was definitely time for a truce.
So I gave myself permission to lay quietly and listen to them find their way back to the love they have for each other. Before you think this is a wacky split personality essay, remember that you too have a variety of voices in your head. Some sound like a parent or teacher or person in authority. Some sound like friends, the media, or colleagues. And some sound like love. Find that one.
The inner voice of love will help you find peace in the drama that can play out in your mind. When no one else is around it is so healing to feel a deep connection with the love that lives within you. We do this at the Women's Wisdom Retreats and the consistent practice carves out a pathway that is easy to access when we need it most. Do what it takes to be in that place of surrendering to love on a daily basis. It will change your life.
