I can't help but notice that over the years I have stored a lot of very useful information. I love learning. I've read books, listened to cds, sat in on webinars, watched dvds, been coached and counselled, attended workshops and been on retreats. You would think by now that I could have amassed ALL the tools I could possibly need for managing and enjoying my life. At least that's what you would think.
Lately it is obvious that in some areas of my life I am a library, storing information that I 'might' someday need, want, use or just have access to if someone else needs or wants it. If some of this material sits much longer it will surely become part of the museum - a place to house artifacts and historically significant material. Is that what I want?
As I help my 96 year old mother-in-law divest herself of 'stuff' I am starkly reminded that I have been accumulating on a physical and psychological level for a long time. I frequently quote Caroline Myss saying "knowing the way is not going the way". If we don't put our wisdom into action, we are a library; storing knowledge.
So, I've decided to take a page from my favourite super hero Marg Delahunty. That's her in the bright red costume with a sword and a microphone. Marg gets things done. She follows through. Something worthy of examination comes to her attention and she is off and running. She takes ACTION. And I want to take action. I want to be like Marg Delahunty.
I sit down with my Life Circle chart and figure out where I have been building a library instead of taking action. There are a few obvious places. First, I get up from my chair and find the big foam sword I have tucked away in a closet. Now I have a tangible reminder of my commitment to action. From here, I make a plan, and if necessary I'll get my coach to help me clear away some of the limiting beliefs I have that keep me stuck. I get to choose.
As much as I love the look and feel of libraries with all those books, I realize the real source of power is in taking action. What will you do today to get off the shelf and into life?
